Wiz Khalifa Files Lawsuit Against Former Manager & Record Label

Things certainly don’t last always. According to Complex, Wiz Khalifa is taking his longtime label Rostrum Records to court in hopes to end a leaching record deal.
The ‘Black and Yellow’ rapper filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the label and its founder, Benjy Grinberg, who served as Wiz’s manager until 2014.
In the suit, Wiz’s legal team claims that Grinberg and Rostrum Records “induced” the rapper into agreeing to a “360 agreement” that entailed they would get a percentage of virtually everything related to the rapper’s brand, including sales and merchandise.
Wiz’s legal representation, Alex Weingarten, commented on Grinberg’s lucrative deal with the rapper.
“An artist’s most trusted advisor is his or her personal manager,” said Weingarten. “Generally, nothing good comes out when the manager decides to go into business against his artist. Unfortunately, that is the case here.”
In court, Wiz  desires to end his former deal under the California Labor Code’s seven-year rule. He’s  also allegedly seeking compensatory damages in excess of $1 millions dollars plus punitive damages and attorney fees.
Grinberg denounced Wiz’s claims and expressed disappointment with his former client.
“[I’m] very disappointed and surprised by [the] news,” he said. “To witness an artist turn on you after supporting them for a number of years is very disheartening. This is an egregious lawsuit filled with inaccuracies, yet unfortunately people sometimes resort to these practices as a way of conducting business.”
