Sometimes last year, a young girl of 14,Wosila Halilu was raped by Musa Garba, 27,and a farmer. Due to the unbearable shame of having a child outside wedlock, Wosila agreed with her family that they would get rid of the child after delivery.
As at today, the Katsina state police command have arrested Wosila, her mother, Faiza Umar, 30, and three stepbrothers Muhammad Bello, 45; Musa Bello, 35; Umar Bello, 27, for feeding the one-day old baby to their family dog at Saika village in Batsari Local Government Area in the state.
Their village head got to know what they did and informed the police who arrested them. Also arrested was the rapist Garba. They were all arraigned before the Katsina state Magistrate court yesterday on a three count charge of culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy and rape. The Chief Magistrate, Nura El-Ladan, after listening to the case, instructed the police to conduct further investigation and also ordered all the suspects be remanded in police custody until the next hearing of the case which is August 8th.
