On Tuesday 12th of July, 4 policemen and 2 kidnappers were killed in Ubima, Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state while exchanging fire between the two groups. The cause of the tragedy was as a result of a distress call to rescue 4 victims of abduction. The kidnap gang opened fire at the security operatives when they arrived the scene.

It was learnt through a witness, Miss Miracle, that the victims had already been rescued before the kidnappers ambushed the security men. She also mentioned that the security operatives had taken over Ubima, Umudimagu, and Omere communities in the local government in search of the hoodlums. Also two men suspected to be relatives of some of the suspects were arrested in Omuanwa community on Wednesday.
