Residents in Ekiti State panic over dismembered body of youth

Barely five days after a lifeless body of a day-old baby was found inside a canal in Irona area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, residents of Ojido Market in Ejigbo, another community in the state capital, discovered the dismembered body parts of a young man inside Ghana-Must-Go bags inside the drainage.

The young man had a ring on, an earring and a stylish hair-cut. Strangely, though, he had a white cloth wrapped around his waist. His hands and legs had been chopped off. He also had a severe machete cut on his neck. Residents claimed the deceased might have been a member of some secret cult, with the earring a symbol. Others said he could have belonged to the clique of internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo-yahoo. Yet, others claimed the unfortunate youth might just be a victim of ritual killing. According to one of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, “this morning, residents and passers-by were worried when they noticed two rough Ghana-must-go bags inside the gutter. One was kept directly opposite the Ojido Market and the other was kept a few metres away from the first.
“The offensive smell from the two bags got people curious. Some Okada riders got more curious and teamed up to cut open the bags. Inside the one directly opposite the market was the dismembered body of a youth. The limbs were in the other bag. That was when they raised alarm.” Meanwhile, the develop-ment crippled business activities, particularly the ever busy Ojido Market, as market women and others deserted the area. Speaking, Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the development, said the deceased had been evacuated and deposited at the mortuary. According to him, “we have evacuated the young man’s body. It is an unfortunate development. Sadly, no one in the area could identify the deceased. “We have been requesting for information from people in the area without any useful information on who dumped the body there. We are still investigating.”
